Back To The Basics – The Lord’s Prayer

There’s a song that goes…’let’s start at the very begining, a very good place to start. When we read we begin with a,b,c, when we sing we begin with do, re, mi. When we pray we begin with…Our father which art in heaven…’ Okay, so I added that last part, but I truly believe that’s what would have made the song the most powerful and effective song of all time! But, on a serious note, in regards to prayer, I am taking us back to basics to start at the very beginning, the very best and only place to start. When Christ was asked by his disciples how to pray, his answer was not a suggestion, but actually a command! He knows everything we need even before we ask it, and so Christ made it simple for us. Everything you need…ever, is in The Lords prayer. My question therefore is why have a lot of us departed fom this endearing prayer and no longer acknowledge it in our daily prayer lives? It is amazingly effective when truly prayed from the heart and not just mindlessly recited. It was given to us in love and should be prayed continuosly in love.
When we pray this prayer, this is what we are essentially saying- Matthew 6: 9-13, After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Our father, the one true father, the creator of heaven and earth. The one true God whose throne is heaven and earth your footstool- Isaiah 66:1.The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The Lord, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and what comes from it, who gives breath to the people on it and spirit to those who walk in it-Isaiah 42:5. Your name I AM, (Exodus 3:14) be hallowed forever.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Let your orderly kingdom that is in heaven come and reside with us here in our earthly vessels. Before you formed us in the belly you knew us; and before we camest forth out of the womb you sanctified us, and ordained us prophets unto the nations-Jeremiah 1:5, therfore let your predestined will be done.

Give us this day our daily bread. Since man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God-Matthew 4:4, please provide every physical provision and spiritual need that is a necessity to carry out your will today.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. To the degree that we Judge not, and we shall not be judged: condemn not, and we shall not be condemned: forgive, and we shall be forgiven:” is the degree to which we ask that you also forgive us of all our transgressions towards you -Luke 6:37

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: Detour us from all evil by way of the Holy spirit, most especially those that come in the form that does not seem evil. There hath no temptation taken us but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer us  to be tempted above that we are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that we may be able to bear it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. All thy works shall praise thee, O Lord; and thy saints shall bless thee. They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom, and talk of thy power; To make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of his kingdom -Psalm 145:10-12. Amen! So shall it be.

What else do you need to ask or say? The Lords prayer is so rich and full of everything we could ever need. Let’s get back to the basics of praying this beautiful prayer, and watch God honor every hearfelt utterance as we obey His son.
Till the next time, shalom!
Nikki.
